What is it

Load flow studies are used to analyze the steady state performance of the system by determining the voltages, currents, real and reactive power flows in a system.

Why is it needed

Load Flow studies can help predict the reaction of a system to a change in operating conditions. These can help determine the capability of the system when introduced to additional loads or when disconnected from a load. For example, when a low voltage is found, load flow studies can help determine the amount of reactive compensation required to achieve the optimal voltage level. These studies are also very useful in relieving overloads on surrounding lines when additional voltage changes are to be expected.

How can we help

Modern systems are complex where power can flow in many paths or branches, forming networks of series and parallel paths. At HSB Engineering, our engineers can analyze the electric power flow in these networks and branches to ensure no overload in present and use load flow analysis to determine:

  • Voltage drop study
  • Steady-state bus voltages
  • Transformer tap settings
  • Systems losses
  • Circuit loadings
  • Performance under emergency conditions

Based on the results of the load studies, our team can recommend corrective measures to optimize system performance under various conditions and guide planning for future improvements. This will decrease the probability of power losses, relieve overloads on the system and decrease the risk of equipment damage and unplanned outages.
